Eiger-Matterhorn: with
good weather and fit,
able clients the typical itinerary is:-
Day 1: Traverse
of Petit Dent de Veisivi (3184m) or Mont Mine - a training rock scramble
of AD standard; 2:1 ratio
Day 2: Drive to Grindelwald; take Jungfraujoch railway and ascend to
Mittellegi Hut
Day 3: Traverse of Eiger (3970m) by Mittellegi and South Ridges (grade D);
return to Evolene
Day 4: Rest day with Valley rock climbing at
Arolla
Day 5: Early morning drive to Zermatt; take cablecar system over to Italian
flank and ascend to Carrel Hut (3835m)
Day 6: Traverse of Matterhorn by Italian and Hornli Ridges; return to
Evolene
The South Ridge of Eiger and Hornli Ridge of Matterhorn can be done as
easier alternatives if conditions are not entirely favourable.
If either the Eiger or Matterhorn can't be attempted because of snowy
conditions, the Jungfrau or Dent Blanche form possible alternatives
