Scotland mountaineering courses:

How to get to us - is much easier than you might think. Drive to us in less than 2 hours from Fort William or take a cheap flight up from London and be with us in less than half a day. We are served by the Inverness-Kyle of Lochalsh railway and will collect all clients arriving at our local station of Strathcarron

SCOTLAND MOUNTAINEERING COURSES

Welcome to Martin Moran Mountaineering. We are one of Britain's most experienced guiding businesses, established in 1985, offering mountaineering courses, holidays and expeditions in the north-west of Scotland, Norway, the Swiss Alps and the Himalayas. The company is directed by Martin Moran, a British and international IFMGA Mountain Guide. Professional organisation, personal service, qualified instructional staffing and an adventurous spirit are the key ingredients of our success. Browse our pages and follow a ladder of ambition from beginner to expert level then join us to discover the sheer thrill and lasting pleasure of mountaineering.

Our Scottish classes offer several ingredients which guarantee a special experience:

  • Our wonderful mountains: the North West Highlands are the mountains I love more than any other in Britain; An Teallach, Liathach, the Cuillin - serrated ridges standing in majestic isolation above the sea
  • Variety of venues: on our classes we go to a different mountain every day -
  • No crowds, no queues, just wilderness: in other areas you'll share the hills with hundreds; on our winter classes you may not see another party all week!
  • Challenge and adventure: climbing in the North West is tougher and more adventurous than elsewhere; our guides relish the challenge of a long ridge or icy gully
  • Local expertise: our unmatched local knowledge includes over 40 traverses of the Cuillin Ridge and nearly 100 new routes with our climbing groups
  • Home Comforts: we provide excellent lodgings with home-cooked meals and personal service

Our Base: Lochcarron is centrally placed to access all the great peaks of Torridon, the North-West Highlands and Skye. Our main winter courses are based at the luxury house 'Beinn Albanach' which sleeps 10 in single, twin and double rooms. All courses are fully catered with delicious home-cooked dinners. At quieter times of the year we arrange high-quality full-board guest house accommodation for our course clients.

Staff: All courses are staffed by qualified Guides, Instructors and Leaders with local knowledge and proven leadership ability. As well as Martin Moran our regular staff include pioneering guru, Andy Nisbet.

Age and Fitness: Clients aged between 18 and 70 may join us provided they are fit for rough mountain walking. Applicants should be able to ascend 400 metres in an hour on a graded path and be used to 7 to 8 hour days on the hills. Young people aged 14 to 18 may join if accompanied by a participating parent.

The Classes: All our classes are 5 days in duration with 6 nights full-board accommodation and all transport during the activities provided. We meet on Saturday evening and clients depart the following Friday morning. Courses enable you to enjoy a full holiday package including lectures and formal instructional sessions, sharing experiences and challenges with like-minded mountain enthusiasts, all at a highly economic price.
